Christian Montessori

What is Christian Montessori?

Education not focused on God’s goals for us falls short of loving Him with our whole mind.

The Vine Montessori community exists to guide children as they obey Jesus: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30) It is through children’s learning that they begin to love God with all their mind. By introducing children with wonder and awe to all that God created, they begin to enter into God’s plan for the universe. This is a Christian community marked by deep respect for the child, the modeling of godly love, and Montessori’s foundational principles.

Christian Roots

Many are familiar with the Montessori approach but unaware of its Christian roots. By focusing on the child’s spirit, along with the child’s will, personality and giftings, the Montessori way works with the true, God-given nature of the child. Rather than focusing solely on the intellect, this method honors the unique person each child is, without expectation that learners remain academically in lock step.

Instead of teachers, we consider ourselves guides who support each child’s unfolding; our aim is to inspire a sense of wonder and imagination. Dr. Montessori said that it is only through careful observation of the child that we might aid their self-discovery. We start from wherever each child is, and thus, “Follow the child.” In fact, a spirit of Christ-like humility and willingness to learn from the children is key.

Extending grace and courtesy at all times in the classroom is the best way, to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31) By offering children not only care but deep respect, Montessori honors each child as they joyfully grow toward God’s will in their life.

Statement of Faith

We Believe...

In the Bible as originally given by God, divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy; and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. The Holy Scriptures are a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

In one God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

That God the Father created and upholds all things for His glory according to His own will through Jesus Christ.

In our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless human life, His divine miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, His mediatorial work, and His personal return in power and glory.

The salvation of lost and sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith apart from works, and by regeneration of the Holy Spirit.

That the Holy Spirit guides, comforts, equips, empowers, convicts, and by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life. He helps us to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life or lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
